Yesterday wasn’t the last day of swimming after all. Next Saturday is, but school has finished. Weird.
I spent yesterday rebuilding the server. Still lots of installing and configuring to do yet, tho.
I took my old AMD 1600+ with half a Gig of RAM and put the PCI PCTV card in it along with the two hard drives from the server. I had tar’red up the home directories and /etc directory.
I wiped out hda and re-partitioned it. I was going to reduce the size of /usr and /var but KDE needed to install and wouldn’t fit in 1Gb, so I re-did it again. I installed Mandrivalinux 2006 and all the apps and stuff I wanted on it. It detected and set up the GeForce Ti4200 nicely and even detected the PCTV card. However, xawtv cannot detect any TV stations for some reason, so I have to research that. I set up the libs and codecs to play DVDs and that’s working nicely so the kids have something to watch while I work on the TV part. They’d prefer to watch Futurama to watching TV anyway, so no problems there. The only thing we watch is Iron Chef (which we missed last night due to having no TV) so no real loss there.
KDE is running nicely though. Today I have to get the rest of the installing and configuring done.
