Well that’s it then…

Rebecca and Sienna moved out today so it’s just me and the cat left.

Very quiet around here…

Yesterday Rebecca headed north to sign the lease and pay the bond + rent. While she and Sienna were gone I got busy and cleaned out a cupboard in the kitchen. I also finally got busy on the side gate door. It wasn’t locking properly unless you put all your weight on the door as the door latch and hole didn’t line up. I got out the drill and now they line up properly and the door locks.

I got my new washing machine too. They said it would be delivered between 1pm and 3pm (I rang at 9am to confirm as they requested). It arrived at 3:42pm. emoticon Oh well. At least I’ve got it now.

Rebecca’s removalists arrived at 7:30am this morning and loaded up the truck and took all her stuff up to her new unit. We followed them in our cars to take up some more stuff as well. We got the place set up, got the gas turned on and the gas to the water heater (after some mucking around). Rebecca bought some groceries and other required items (kettle, toaster etc). There’s an Aldi shop in the suburb where they live so she got a lot of stuff cheap from there.

I stayed around until after 5pm and drove back home. I’ve been vacuuming the place and cleaning up.

Novell needs your vote!

Sunday, January 29th, 2006

From Desktoplinux.com:

Novell, through its CoolSolutions community-relations website, is conducting an online public survey to determine which Windows-only applications are most likely to keep Windows users from migrating to Linux. The company also wants to know which Windows-only apps would be most popular on Linux desktops if they were ported to Linux.

"The end result is that we will be contacting the vendors of these applications, asking them to partner with Novell to port their software to Linux," said CoolSolutions site editor Scott Morris. "As you know, numbers speak volumes."

Morris invites DesktopLinux.com readers to participate in the online survey, which can be found here.

Pinball counting song from Sesame Street remix

Sunday, January 29th, 2006

Someone did a remix of the Number 12 pinball song from Sesame street. Footage from the original song plus mixes of The Beatles Yellow Submarine footage.

Sesame Street Pinball Number Count Remix.

The original song is featured on Family Guy using Stewie in a plastic bubble ball as the pinball.

Also, here’s a letter from the guy who wrote the song and created the animation of the original. The numbers in the song are sung by the Pointer Sisters.

The IT Crowd

A new comedy — this time about geeks — by the guy who wrote "Father Ted" and "Black Books". Graham Linehan gives us "The IT Crowd". The first episode is available to watch online now.

The high-rise towers of Reynholm Industries are full of go-getters, success stories, and winners… apart from in the basement.

While their beautiful colleagues work in fantastic surroundings, Jen, Roy and Moss lurk below ground, scorned and mocked by their co-workers as geeky losers, doomed never to make it back into normal society.

Shopping day

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

This morning we went to do some shopping. Since Rebecca will be taking the washing machine and I will be keeping the fridge, we will need one more of each.  I had to get my webcam too to talk to Sienna when she has moved out.

I went to Harvey Norman, Domayne and The Good Guys. In the end, Harvey Norman had the cheapest prices (would you believe?).

I got the Logitech Quickcam 5000:

It has a built-in mic, face tracking software and special technology to give a great picture and fantastic sound. It can even cancel out sound reverbs created from microphones picking up speakers and re-transmitting the sound back and forth. Quite nice for $149.95

I got a Samsung 6kg washing machine. $488 plus $50 6yrs extended warranty plus $35 delivery Monday.

Here’s a demo pic taken with the webcam. Note that we have no lights turned on in the house and the blinds are closed so very little light is in the room, yet it can produce a fairly decent photo. Click the thumbnail below to check out the image. It can do up to 640×480, altho it can interpolate up to 1.3MP:

How do you get undressed?

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

Even undressing you can get to know yourself better. How interesting.

1) If you throw your clothes all over the place, you are a friendly, life-of-the-party type. You are free with your thoughts and opinions, not caring much about what others think of you. Your parents might think your room looks like a cyclone hit it? but it actually represents your happy, individualistic nature!

2) If you remove each piece of clothing and put it away carefully, you are a serious person who likes her life to be very calm. You are comfortable with routine, and you believe that the best way to deal with life’s problems is to prevent them in the first place. You are a perfectionist. By nature you are quite shy. You are observant and you know more about some people than they think, just because you’ve watched them. You are dependable and sometimes intense. You think carefully before making decisions. You go about your tasks methodically, with concentration. You know how to pay attention.

3) If you take off the shirt, and ten minutes later get around to the pants, you are an extremely self-confident person. You are naturally bright and intellectual. You are also a deep thinker who loves to ask questions and ponder the meaning of things. You hate being rushed and you do not like to be hassled. Usually you like a lot of free time for yourself.

4) If you get out of your clothes as quickly as possible, you are concerned about others and what they expect from you, but you’re worried about your own needs. You are family-oriented, and stay extremely busy. You often feel stressed, but most of those heavy expectations come from your own head! Give yourself a break; you don’t have to be perfect.

5) If you take off your rings, earrings, necklace, watch, etcetera before anything else, you are a warm and sensitive person. You are considerate and thoughtful, and you give good advice to your friends. You are a natural born romantic.

6) If you don’t have an undressing routine and you never do it the same way twice, you are a very curious and interesting person. You enjoy a broad range of activities. You take risks and enjoy fun and adventure. You are very sociable.
