We drove all over southern Brisbane areas yesterday. Rebecca put in two applications. One was rejected straight away as they don’t allow kids in their unit. Another one she filled in the app but they refused to photocopy her drivers licence or papers. They said she had to go elsewhere and copy them then bring the copies back.. even though they had a copier in the office. It was too late in the afternoon to get that done.
There was one hopeful though. They are dying to get someone in really soon so we should hear back from them soon. They’ve just renovated the whole place and it looks fantastic.
We put Rebecca’s car in for servicing today. While driving up to and around Brisbane the steering wheel was wobbling a little. By yesterday afternoon it was wobbling so violently you would think the wheels were oval and not round. Coming down the freeway I had to pull over as I was getting a headache from my spine being wobbled around due to the steering wheel moving so much. I thought the right-hand wheel was having the most problems but didn’t want to kneel next to the car between it and the motorway. Too many people have been knocked down by cars passing too closely. Plus the enormous rush of wind as trucks zoom past is bad enough. Putting the spare on the left didn’t make any difference so it turned out I was right about the other side. The petrol guage was also on “E” but the light hadn’t come on yet. I took a turnoff and tried to find a service station so I could get out of the rain and fill up the fuel tank and change the other tyre. We didn’t find one, but I did find a place to pull totally off the road so I could change the tyre. I got out in the rain and pulled the front right tyre off and put the left one on there instead. We got back in and the drive was smooth as. The right-hand tyre was down to the canvas and the left was on it’s way too but at least we could get home.
About 10ks from home the fuel light came on so we were holding our breath we wouldn’t run out. There’s not a lot of service stations close to the turnoffs and I didn’t know where we would find one anyway so we kept going. We finally got off the motorway and were stopped for ages at two red traffic lights hoping we wouldn’t run out. As soon as we got through the next traffic light we went to the nearest service station and filled up. The tank was nearly dry.
I got Rebecca to ring the KMart Auto service place while we were heading home to get her car booked in to get new front tyres. They said we were lucky because someone had just canceled for Saturday morning otherwise we’d have to wait until Monday. If the application falls through we would want to be out and about looking and not waiting for the car to get fixed.
This morning we dropped the car off and got them to check it for the 80,000km service and replace the tyres. They found the back ones were also wearing unevenly and needed replacing. The air filter needed replacing. The brakes were almost metal-on-metal and needed replacing. $700 all up. EEK!
We took both cars and put Blake’s old booster seat in my car for Sienna. She’s just big enough to be able to sit in that now, so that was lucky. I don’t have a child seat in my car and no bolt to attach it to anyway. We stayed at the Robina Shopping Centre and had breakfast and got a few groceries to last this week.
Sienna’s swimming day started again today but I didn’t have time to take her down. Will take her next week probably.
