Does anyone know much about dhtml layers? I have a gif I want to whack up =
in the top right corner of this document. I want it to float over the thick =
black borders of the table.

I know I can use the float tag but it only lets me specify the TOP and LEFT =
attributes and I will not know how wide a screen is as the resolution of =
the monitor viewing my blog could be set to any value.

I almost had it working at one stage using a DIV tag but that created a =
blank column on the right hand side of this blog the width of the image. =
Kinda like if you have your TABLE set up right then add an extra TD =
somewhere.

I know it can be done cos I’ve seen snowflakes falling down screens and =
those annoying dhtml logos and menus which scroll down the screen. I don’t =
want mine to stay at the top of the screen, though. Just disappear as a =
normal gif would if you moved the elevator down the screen.

Answers on the back of an envelope and write BRAINS on the front.

Last night I got to chatting with strangers and got my Speechcraft up a few =
levels. I even played many Disposition games. With one person I even maxed =
out my Disposition level with him and could go no higher.
I learned a bunch of stuff and made friends. Next I have to get a high =
disposition level with some girls and get invited upstairs like in the demo =
movie I downloaded. Unfortunately I’ve not seen any information about =
forming relationships of the close kind so it’s probably not possible =
dammit!

Apple iPod owners are suing Apple because they are going deaf from having =
their iPod volume set to maximum all the time.

Listen up people IT’S YOUR OWN DAMN FAULT!
Apple didn’t make you deaf just as McDonald’s didn’t make you a big fat =
fuck!

You did!

Put down the burger, chips and Coke (R) ™ and turn the bloody music =
DOWN!

This has been another dumb humans production for the BangRocks Network. =
WauloK speaking.

CBA strips $200m from IT
Kelly Mills
MARCH 30, 2006

THE Commonwealth Bank will redirect up to $200 million from its technology spending to other areas of the bank as part of a new IT plan.

As part of the plan to cut costs, the bank will get tough on the use of consultants, put in place a preferred vendor list, instil a organisation-wide procurement process and get smarter in how it sources products and systems.

Its main outsourcing partner EDS will bare the brunt of this new strategy.

The $5 billion outsourcing contract is due to expire in the middle of 2007.

CBA chief executive officer Ralph Norris said in today’s Strategic Direction briefing that EDS had been a "very good organisation in regards to operating and managing large scale systems".

Mr Norris confirmed the bank was in the advanced stages of renegotiating the EDS contract, saying he expected a "satisfactory" result.

That last post should have gone out yesterday but my phone didn’t send the =
email for some reason.

I fired up TES.Ob again last night.=20

I tried some thievery. I went to a weapons shop, saved my game, sold all =
the crap I didn’t want and went upstairs and broke into a locked room.. =
only to be confronted by fido.. a BIG German Shepherd and he chomped me up. =
Next time I will open the door AFTER unequipping my bow and equipping my =
big hammer. Let’s try again. CHOMP! Hmm .. maybe if I try hitting him fast. =
Yep! That worked!
Have a look around. Grab some gold and a fully repaired version of my =
hammer. Read a book. “Ullo ullo ullo! What’s all this then? You’re nicked, =
son!” Crap! It’s the coppers!
Load up my saved game.
Popped back upstairs again. Damn dog! Load saved game. Upstairs. Damn =
dog.
Load saved game.
This time remember to sell my crap, including my big hammer (can grab that =
one upstairs anyway). Save game. Head upstairs. Damn dog! My sword isn’t as =
good as my hammer..
Load saved game. Hey! Maybe if I actually HEALED MYSELF to 100% I may have =
a chance with this dog!
Heal. Save game. TAKE THAT LASSIE! YEA!
Nick gold and my nice hammer.
Crap! Cops are back! Ah well that’s enough of that.

Other things I learned the hard way:
If you ask a warden to let you talk to a prisoner and he insists on coming =
along, don’t try lockpicking a cell in front of him. He don’t like it =
much…
Another one: Don’t pick a lock to the guardhouse. There may be guards =
inside who don’t take too kindly to that sort of behaviour…

So I’m still having fun at this early stage. I’m pretty sure my 14 day =
World of Warcraft account has expired by now. Oh well. I might get a real =
account later in the year.

So much of my future is up in the air atm so I don’t know where or what I =
will be doing in the future. I guess I just have to wait and see.

I finally got around to installing Elder Scrolls IV last night. I’ve got to =
say it is a nice game so far. I completed the tutorial and chose to be an =
Agent, much to the surprise of the Royal Guard who thought I would be a =
Rogue!

Sadly Patrick Stewart dies early in the game. He’s such a good actor.

This could be the kind of game I’ve been waiting for. One where you can =
choose to do what you want instead of following a linear story which a lot =
of games do. Even World of Warcraft to an extent. I want to be free to =
explore, do quests I want, cast spells, even steal or attack people I’m not =
supposed to.

The game checked my hardware and set itself to 640 x 480 with enhancements =
off. I changed it to 1152 x 860 and turned on HDR. Nice! I love the HDR in =
this game. Looks so pretty.

Will let you know hiw I go as I play it more.

Sun close to home thin-client

Chris Jenkins

MARCH 28, 2006 THIN-CLIENT computing may be about to move from office to home, as Sun works with an internet provider on a package based on its Sun Ray thin-client and StarOffice software. Sun Australia managing director Jim Hassell said the system, bundled with a broadband connection, would be ready to make its debut when pricing had been finalised. The system, which uses the Sun Ray 170 thin client with 17in screen, had passed the proof-of-concept stage and had proceeded to a trial. Sun was working with its internet service provider partner to decide on pricing for the service, he said. "Really, the debate is about the price."

How to stick it to Bill Gates. Get everyone using Sun’s Solaris OS and Star Office then offer other services over the ‘Net. Store everyone’s data online through a fast broadband connection. Who cares if your hard drive crashes? All your data is safe and you just format and reinstall or put in a new hard drive and off you go again.

There’s speculation that Google has the same idea. We already know they use their own Desktop OS in their offices. We already know "Google has purchased Writely. Writely is a collaborative word processor that runs in a web browser. ". The new frontier is having your applications served from the web.. an Application Service Provider (ASP) has your applications online and can keep your data safe online as well. Your home computer doesn’t have to know anything except how to connect to the internet and to the ASP. You don’t have to upgrade your software when a new version comes out. The ASP will just roll out the new version on their own services. I expect we will see many more applications going this way. It won’t be too long before you don’t install your games locally. The Games ASP (GASP?!) will keep a local copy of a game on their server and give you access to it when you log in. This also saves them on piracy. If you don’t have a login, you don’t have a copy of the game. The only issues being when your phone line/cable connection/wifi goes down and you have a useless computer with no access to your data. I expect they will have to work out some way around that.
