Today I downloaded the x11vnc application for the server and dotnet vnc =
client. I also got a network drive mapper for my PocketPC to connect to my =
Linux Samba shares.
To go with that I also downloaded a PPC audio player and a video player. I =
hope to stream video and audio via WiFi to my PocketPC!

I got the SJPhone VOIP application for my PocketPC to try out one day as =
well :D

I had so much trouble trying to get my PCs on the home WiFi network I rang =
up Netcomm support and they gave me an RA number for each so I could return =
them. My PocketPC and work laptop could connect fine so it had to be the =
cards. Plus I tried one in my XP machine and one in my Linux box so it =
wasn’t OS.

I took them back and swapped them out for Netgear cards which worked =
perfectly from the start. I had a little problem with the Linux one but a =
quick email to the Mandriva mailing list provided a suggestion to use the =
latest ndiswrapper from sourceforge. This proved the correct solution and =
now my server is on the network. I might turn on WEP at some stage in the =
future.

My next plan is to set up VNC on the server and control the interface from =
my PocketPC. How leet! I also want to get one of those AV sender / =
receivers and put the server in another part of the house to cut down on =
the fan noise in the lounge.

My home is going to be super WiFi everything! lol! :)

Once I get ADSL finally on my phone line I might test VOIP from my PocketPC =
too!

Saturday was a busy day. I popped into the shops with Sienna to pick up =
some stuff. The stupid cat had jumped in my open car window Friday and =
pissed on the passenger seat. I didn’t discover this until I was going to =
work so couldn’t do anything until that night when I picked up Sienna after =
going to the doctor for the results of my ultrasound earlier in the week. =
So I bought some cheap seat covers from Crazy Clark’s discount store.

After that Sienna and I went and picked up my bike from the shop. Now it =
has a new chain I can finally ride it with Sienna.

We got home after ten and at 11.30 Foxtel turned up to install my new =
Foxtel IQ system. They were supposed to arrive between 12pm and 5pm so I =
was surprised but happy. It was raining all day except for the 1.5 hrs they =
were installing.

I dropped Sienna off at Bec’s new home this morning on the way to work.

This morning I woke before 4am and lay in bed for over half an hour before giving up and getting up.

This afternoon I will be coming home a bit early from work and going to see the doctor to get the results of my ultrasound. After that, I’ll head out and pick up Sienna for the weekend. Since it’s a long weekend I get to have her for an extra day! YAY! :D Saturday afternoon Foxtel installs my satellite TV.

Today I’m taking back my WiFi network cards from Netcomm which are not working. I might Google around and see if I can find card types better supported by Linux. When trying to use the Netcomm one I kept getting big message floods in my /var/log/messages telling me the TI chipset in my card wasn’t really supported well and I’d be better off getting another type.

Well, we know it’s not just women that shop to help the mood. Guys just buy expensive electronics and stuff ;)

A couple of weeks ago I finally got my LCD TV. It was $1999 at Harvey Norman and $1799 at JB HiFi. Well, once the house was sold I went to check JB again and it had come down to $1590! What timing! (Readers of Florence Scovel Shinn’s books wouldn’t think so ;) ). So I got that and a 68cm CRT TV for Sienna to watch at Rebecca’s since they didn’t have a TV at all, plus a Digital Set Top Box and cables all for $1700. BARGAIN!

I couldn’t pick up any TV stations because the TV points in this new rental I live in are in other rooms and not in the one I chose for my lounge room. Today I went to Dick Smith Electronics and bought an indoor TV antenna with signal booster and now I get all the lovely digital channel goodness.

I now have my TV in the lounge with the Digital STB (Set Top Box) and PC plugged into it. I’ve just mucked around with KDE and finally got 1360×768 widescreen going.

This Saturday, Foxtel arrives to install my satellite dish and I can watch many channels of TV crud :D

Today in KMart I found the Collector’s Edition of The Fifth Element. The sticker said $24.99 but it scanned at $15.99…. sweeeeet! :) :) :)

The day before my TV arrived I went to Ipswich with Sienna and found a nice pine shop there. They had a factory built TV entertainment unit. It had been reduced from $1299 to $599. I looked all over it and asked why it was reduced as I could see nothing wrong with it. They said people in Sydney buy it but don’t like the colour and return it and it sits in the shop for months and they can’t sell it so they send it to this pine shop up here to try and get rid of it. Cheering! I got it as it was exactly what I wanted for my lounge room. It looks beautiful!

That day I also went with Sienna to RT Edwards Retravision and ordered a single bed with a foam mattress for Sienna. Yesterday while I had the day off I went to KMart and bought some sheets and pillow cases and a polyester quilt for it. I already had a quilt cover with Bob the Builder on it, so I put the quilt in that. The sheets have pictures of Disney Princesses. I noticed today at KMart they have a copule of DVDs with shows about Disney Princesses.. the same ones on Sienna’s sheets and pillows. I also got a fake mink blanket to go on her bed.. similar to my one. They are superwarm and very soft, so I know she’ll love it.

Yesterday and today I didn’t go to work. Monday night my stomach had pains and it continued yesterday so I went to the doctor. He referred me to a medical centre to have an ultrasound. I wasn’t pregnant tho ;) I went today to the ultrasound and I think it’s to do with my hernia I had an operation for about 12-13 years ago. It’s probably acting up because I hauled some stuff around the house Monday night while cleaning up the place. I will have to go back to the doctor’s on Friday afternoon and get the results. The ultrasound scanner lady even got the radiologist in to have a look. I don’t know if that’s standard procedure, but they both seemed a bit concerned.

My WiFi network at home is sorta working. The ADSL modem works (not with ADSL yet.. still waiting for Telstra) and my work laptop can connect and my PocketPC can connect to the WiFi network but neither of my PCs. I rang Netcomm support yesterday and they said to return the cards and they will supply new ones.

My dad’s uncle Ted (97) has been living with them for about the last 5 years. Yesterday morning he had a heart attack at 5am and they rushed him to hospital.

The hospital said he would not last 2 hours, but he went into a coma and lasted until early this morning.

He had been having trouble keeping his food down for the last week or so and had been wheezing trying to breathe.

A couple of years ago I took some photos of him. I might put them up into my Photo Album once I get my network going again cos the files are on my server.

I’ve been giving Sienna lessons on her bicycle. Saturday morning she needed =
me to push her bike around for her but by Saturday night she wa pedaling by =
herself, even reversing properly when stuck. She zooms around the house and =
really loves riding.

I will have to get my bike a new chain again soon so I can take her for =
rides to get some exercise and have some fun daddy-daughter time. She used =
to enjoy going for a ride with me.

As much as I’d like to try out an Apple, I just can’t justify the cost. It =
may be 1337. It may be cool and funky, but another PC is just something I =
don’t want to shell out for.

I would like to purge Windows from my home network all together and just =
run Linux. My problem is I still need XP for Oblivion, Game Editor and =
Second Life. Yes I could install VMware’s player but it means I still need =
XP somewhere on my system taking up space.=20
No, I haven’t re-installed any of these yet as the stability of my PC =
leaves a lot to be desired these days. Last night it had trouble just =
booting, then when I wanted to dial into the interwebbeh it spontaneously =
rebooted! It makes me not even want to turn the damned thing on at the =
moment. The best way to fix instability issues would be yet another =
rebuild, but with no ADSL and my linux box not yet connecting to the wifi =
network, I’m hesitant. If I AM going to rebuild it occurred to me that a =
Linux build might be the way to go (PCLinuxOS?) but with the above required =
applications not working on Linux, I’m trapped.

A bunch of emails went around excitedly announcing the date 04/05/06 and =
the time to go with it at 1:23am. ‘It’ll not happen again for many many =
years’ they proclaimed!

But what about reverse numbers? Is the general public unable to easily =
comprehend them?

What about 08/07/06 at 5:43 and 21 seconds? I haven’t seen emails about =
this strange phenomenon as yet! What’s going on?
