Yesterday we went to check out some places.. went to a few Real Estate agencies and it became apparent that my rent value will be the same (or MORE) wherever I go… so I figure if I’m going to be paying city-rate rent I may as well have the convenience of it.
I went to one place (not that great looking, but cheap — obvious why!) and about 30 people turned up to see it! It’s not far from the city and walking distance from a big shopping centre (Indooropilly) and train station. No wonder so many people turned up.
So, I’ve decided to bite the bullet and find a really really nice place with some extra conveniences closer to the city than where I am. I’ve found a few (about a half dozen with a quick look) that are around $300pw and have Air Conditioning, Dishwasher and nice views of the city, etc. Today Sienna and I checked them all out from the outside. I forgot to take my Refidex, so it’s damn lucky the website pages I printed had little maps on them or we would have been stuck. I didn’t realise I had no map book until we got near the first place and it’s about 30 mins drive from where I currently live! Ack!
We looked at about a half dozen places and from the outside and the descriptions they look like possible winners. I rang all the agencies on the off chance that one is open today, but no such luck. Tomorrow morning I’ll ring them all at 8:30am (the time most said they are open) and start arranging inspections.
I will also pick up a lot of boxes and start putting stuff in them now. Even though I won’t be moving out for about 4-5 weeks, I figure it’s best to get stuff started now while I have the time rather than killing myself in the last week or few days trying to get it sorted out. I’ll move most of the furniture and stuff into the garage and leave the car outside. That’ll let me get the carpetted rooms empty and I’ll hire someone to give them a damn good cleaning. Hopefully they can get out chocolate and orange juice :-/ Next place, the first thing I’m buying is a giant cheap rug to stick in the lounge. You can’t stop them from eating in there no matter how hard you try. Kids will be kids. I also have to clean the pen off the bathroom door on my ensuite. about 50% of it is rubbed off so far.
