You pack your bags
And you move to the city
There’s somethin’ missin’ here at home
You fix your hair
And you’re lookin’ real pretty
It’s time to get it out on your own
I’ve done it! Yesterday I moved closer to the city. The second lot of removalists arrived at 8am (the first lot canceled) and had me moved into the new place by 10am. Today the second lot of cleaners (the first lot canceled) arrived at my old place at 7am (I had to get up at 6am to get out there and let them in) and had it all cleaned out by about 1:30pm. You would hardly know anyone had lived there for a year! It’s all sparkly clean.
I’ve just finished setting up my computer. Yesterday I set up the TV and SD Digital box and chilled out watching TV. I caught a few episodes of The Simpsons and NCIS then went to bed. I was exhausted. The night before I hadn’t slept that much due to the excitement of moving so I really needed the snooze last night and had to get up at 6am anyway.
Today I met one of my neighbours. A nice old lady with a couple of cats she’s adopted from a guy who used to live next door to her. I met one of the cats yesterday while moving in and said hi.
Last week I met one of my neighbours at my old place. That was the first neighbours I talked to since moving in over a year ago. It’s nice to meet someone here already. Seems a nice place to live. The lady I met last week at my old place told her husband she had met me and I’m a nice guy, but am moving out in the next week. He said “That’d be bloody right!” heh. I dropped off some info and brochures on 3G broadband since it’s the only way they will get broadband out there. 3 have a new USB adapter for PCs to connect at HSDPA speeds. That’s as close to broadband as they will get. It’s $49pm for 1Gb up/down or $69pm for 2Gb up/down iirc.
Even dialup at my new place is faster. It’s connected at 50.6kbps instead of my old 41.2kbps at the old place.
I sent my new phone number to Striker to check if I have the ability to get ADSL2+ on my new phone line. He sms’ed me back “pair gain”. I sent back a bunch of swear words and stuff. He sent back “Just kidding - you should be able to get ADSL on your line no problems by the looks”. Then he sent “Guess how far you are from your exchange?”. I sent “1m”. He replied “Close enough - 700m.” So I should get ADSL2+ no problems. I joined up to iiNet and have a modem on the way in the mail. Hopefully I should be connected by the week’s end.
Yesterday I bought a “Dakota” futon (RENEE!) and new office chair from A-Mart. We shoved the boxes and futon mattress into my hatchback and they just fit, then the guy said to me “Isn’t it amazing how much you can fit into these little cars?” - I have a Honda civic hatchback. I said “Yes, but I don’t know how I’m gonna fit the chair in!”. He said “Didn’t you load it in already?”. I told him “No. Someone brought the chair over and put it on the floor near me then another guy picked it up and carried it away”. Turns out someone else ordered the same chair and they thought it was for him, so they went and got me another one. We jammed that in, but I had to move both front seats so far forward my knees were under my chin. Lucky I was only a few kilometres from home and drove home carefully. Last night I set up the futon and TV so I could relax. It’s all very nice and the antique woodwork on the futon goes with my entertainment unit.

I also got a very nice Regal Highback office chair.
